It’s that time of the year for me when I choose which 5k I want to participate in. Every year I usually do anywhere from 2-4 5k’s a year. I got hooked after completing my first 5k a few years back. Now it’s an annual thing. But with Covid…the choices on where on I could do them were limited. Last year I chose the Susan G. Komen For The Cure based out of Hawaii, my home away from home. I was the Team Captain and we raised a little donation for my cause close to my personal battle. Breast Cancer.

My first 5k with my God Daughter Serrina on right. We were Batman & Robin

If you are not familiar with my story…I was diagnosed in 2013 with ovarian Cancer first. Then it blew my mind to find out one year later I was diagnosed with a rare form of Breast Cancer. Stage 3 Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. I went through extensive chemotherapy as well as radiation. I am still battling this disease. You see. Although I had numerous surgeries and treatments it has spread to my skin. I was diagnosed May 2020 with Inflammatory Breast Carcinoma. There is NO CURE and has a 5-year life expectancy. Could be longer. The worst part about having IBC is that there is no way to tell when it hits end stage until it is too late. I am at Stage 3 now. When it hit Stage 4-end stage I could have days, weeks and/or months to live. So every single second counts for me. I have good and bad days with my body and still on daily oral chemo and regular treatments. I choose to live a positive happy life now. I have accepted my outcome now and am absolutely grateful for my journey. I know it sounds crazy. But this tumbleweed of a ride has taught me how to become a better friend, sibling, daughter, wife and mother. I have lost friends along the way, but have gained amazing new ones. Everything happens for a reason and I am so blessed for everyone of them good and bad. Whether you join or not I will continue to fight each and every single day until my last breath.
